ICT CMAC Work Package 5: People and Processes

Objectives

After evaluation of the available options for an ICT-enabled lab environment, WP5 will implement the optimum solution, which will be deployed and trialled within the CMAC community. Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs) will be used to bring together user experiment details, data captured and analysis carried out into a single, coherent and searchable platform.

Personnel

Work Package 5 Lead – Dr Blair Johnston

Dr Blair Johnston is a Senior Lecturer in Computational Modelling at the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. He teaches on the Masters of Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Clinical Pharmacy and Chemistry with Drug Discovery degrees.

His group has research interests in five broad areas: drug discovery, molecular structure simulation, machine learning and prediction, data analysis, and web-enabled science and collaboration tools. In the vast majority of the research, the group work closely with experimental scientists in the design and execution of collaborative research to realise the full potential of their laboratory data. This combination of experiment and theory often provides unique insight into the systems being studied.

Research Associate – Dr Murray Robertson

Murray obtained a BSc(Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Dundee in 2004. Returning from a short time travelling, he completed his PhD in organic chemistry at the University of Glasgow under the supervision of Dr Rudi Marquez in 2009. Since then, Murray has held a number of post doc positions at the University of Strathclyde and the University of Sydney with a broad scope of research interests. These include molecular docking and virtual screening, medicinal chemistry, asymmetric synthesis and open source science. Murray’s interest now lies in data handling and reporting with the aim of maximising productivity within the ICT CMAC (and CMAC) projects.
