Neuroscience and Mental Health

Brain disorders are top of the World Health Organisation's Agenda in terms of disability. Advances in treatments of Psychiatric and Neurological disorders depend on mulitdisciplinary strategies. By cementing expertise across SIPBS and the University in cell biology, medicinal chemistry, drug delivery, immunology, parasitology with fundamental neuroscience and genetics the team are providing new insights into how brain cells operate in health and become dysfunctional in disease. Programmes of work are aligned with the NHS, Medicines Use and Health abd the Pharmaceutical industry with the ultimate aim of developing new therapeutic targets and strategies for stroke, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, cognitive and hearing disorders.

A cross-faculty Centre for Neuroscience at the University of Strathclyde (CeNsUS) has been recently formed and is an umbrella organisation that provides a coherent framework to enable cross-disciplinary engagement and to facilitate excellence in Neuroscience research and knowledge exchange.
