Profile

BSc (Hons) Physiology, University of London, PhD (Pharmacology), University of London. I have been a member of staff at Strathclyde since 1984 (Postdotoral Research Fellow 1984-1990, Lecturer 1990-1998, Senior Lecturer 1998-present, Head of Teaching and Assistant Head of Institute 2006-present).

I teach anatomical, physiological and pharmacological concepts to students across all years of all degrees programmes within the Institute. Sujects taught range from basic introductory animal and plant biology in lower years to advanced concepts in neuropharmacology and clinical pharmacology in the final year.

I have authored around 40 peer-reviewed publications and 60 conference abstracts relating to a wide range of projects focusing around the elucidation of the control mechanisms involved in the regulation of synaptic transmission at the neuromuscular junction. These have included the characterisation of the autoimmune nature of the Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome, the characterisation of the pharmacology of the mammalian neuromuscular vesicular acetylcholine transporter and the characterisation of the nicotinic autoreceptor control of mammalian neuromuscular transmission.
