This Week's Tweaks

Friday 25 November 2011 04:32 pm

SCRIPT
updated 'stand-alone' SCRIPT site to v2 (new skin/ design, label Rx types, updated about page with lightbox).  Added NES 'cluster', using Glasgow based location. Added 11-12 session Aston OSPAP users and new NES staff users. Fixed label display bug - long drug names wrapping, now font size shrinks to fit. Updates from DEV now on LIVE as well as stand-alone system.

Radiation database
following recommendations from SS and SEPA, removed ability for users to enter 0/trace values for swabs/ sharps. Added volume/ weight options to sealed source disposals (option) and temp storage moves (compulsory for scint bin moves). PDF output of stock history - now includes full history for stock (from both v1 + v2 systems if stock present in both) plus dilutions (v1 + v2 history if relevant) in single pdf. Stock report - lab view, now shows dilutions as well as main stocks.

Class Evaluations
created myQuestionnaires_myplace to handle link from myPlace to myQuestionnaires (cf ePDP). Uses inc_myplace to include all myPlace specific screen decoration, CSS and Javascripts. Fixed uni logo to link to uni home page. Will allow for link from meta classes to SPIDER automatically (inc auth via Shibb)

Workshop Tool
bug fixes and integration with asset register items - updates asset register when item not already present.

Booking System
bug fix to calendar notifications to email only correct staff.

Booking System
made various changes to fit in with the IT guys rules for booking laptops / projectors etc.

  • added a new type for the IT stuff, can only be booked mornings / afternoons / all day, no block bookings etc.
  • added iCal events to the automated emails to update the bookers calendar (adds work, deletes send a cancel which should work but doesn't for me, not bothered updating user calendar on edits as the date can't be changed)
  • started an overview of all the IT equipment so they can easily see when things need to be given out / taken back

Class Evaluations
These are to be done through spider. The myplace team wanted a list of all the classes so they could put separate links in to each of the spider questionnaires but I thought we could just link from the year classes to the students myQuestionnaires page, maybe wrap it in a skin with the stuff in a resizing iframe like the pdp page so I've actually done nothing on this

Quizzes
fixed a bug where on numeric questions where the student is shown the calculation required to get the right answer the actual question feedback text wasn't shown

Exam paper database usability
Not made much progress with this, added a 'select all' to the checkboxes to make it easier to fix but that's all. It really needs a multistage process where you can put the exam into different modes. A wizard wouldn't work as different people have to do different things. Still needs more thought.

also did a myplace caching workaround based on a request for our services

This Week's Tweaks

PG Database
updated inc_admin to include missing admin users. Added 'inactive' status for students. Added extra staff to inc_externals. Updated students per supervisor (admin) and student progress (staff) tools with filters to include/discount inactive, withdrawn & terminated students. Updated staff 'myStudents' tool with AJAX based filter for role - allows staff to only show students where you are "supervisor 1" (or sup 2, assessor, counsellor etc)

Radiation database
fixed bug in bin_move stopping refresh to bin list after moving a bin. Fixed bug in stock reports for temp stores showing incorrect total per isotope. Fixed some user input/ disposal errors.

RSS news
added conversion script to turn Atom feed from MyPlace news into RSS feed for signage system (OneLAN box only supports RSS).

Facebook
investigated using Facebook in the educational environment following requests at SSCommittee for a discussion forum/ sounding board for students to communicate with class reps as MyPlace is not seen as a suitable system (students reporting lack of anonymous posting, poor interface/ UI as reasons). Discussion lead to proposal of Class Rep managed pages that students could sign up to without requiring staff involvement, avoiding issues of SU staff involvement, ownership and monitoring.
