This Week's Tweaks

Friday 28 January 2011 03:51 pm

radiation database
updated backend of v2 so that it will run concurrently with v1 using the same database, mostly so I could demo the current (old) system to some new raidation users on the DEV server. Worth doing as it will make migration from v1 to v2 a bit easier on live once v2 is completed (hopefully by the end of Feb). Tweaked style and layout of v2 a bit.

PG DB
updated external supervisors list for Physics.

questionnaires
updated export system for sub-admin level users so they are able to export all questionnsiare on cluster

class content
minor tweak to display user's name instead of their username alongside uploaded content in staff/editor view.

ADR
lots of effort expended on filling out Accountability and Development Review forms - the new incarnation of the 'what I did and what I'm going to do to be a better employee' paperwork that all staff have to complete. Not quite as techy as our ePDP tools.

quiz
bug fix in storage of HTML table display in quiz questions.

file manager upload progress tracking
various changes to make integration into the upload system work better.

wiki
various updates and tweaks to some of the wiki DEV, how-to and general help pages.

This Week's Tweaks

Friday 21 January 2011 04:13 pm

exam paper builder
last weeks version of the EDPAC extension abandoned because of browser differences causing massive differences in the rendered pdf. This is still used for display on screen though. New version just draws the bars on a scanned EDPAC sheet which is accurate well beyond what edpac should accept. This is finished but untested as I don't know where the edpac machine is or what it looks like.

class reviews
added admin functionality to perform batch actions on some or all reviews rather than having to do them individually. release to staff, finalise and release to students etc.

file manager upload progress tracking
finally made some progress on this after many (quick) attempts last year that didn't do anything at all. Still many timing issues to sort out and not integrated with anything yet but works in IE6 surprisingly

turnitin
had a lot of fun with this despite clearly explaining to the students not to upload the same document to different accounts. One registered four times with four different email addresses and there were also accounts set up with false names to which several students uploaded their work. When they uploaded the files to their proper accounts they were all flagged as 100% plagiarised of course.

This Week's Tweaks

SIPBS signage
I've spent most of this week sorting out the oneLAN system that provides the back end to the signage system in the Hamnet wing of the SIPBS building. Its a fairly flexible tool, and allows us to give it feeds from offsite (BBC) as well as our own SIPBS news feed and a feed from SPIDER. Changed the SPIDER web manager tool so that the 'news' manager can be used to add items to the oneLAN by creating news feeds that the oneLAN box picks up. Much tweaking of layouts later, we have a working system, which will no doubt change over the next few weeks.

exam results
minor change to the 'stats' in staff view to show marks distribution. Working on the best way to give a breakdown of 'ranges' within the distribution (i.e number of students >40%, >50% etc).

SCRIPT
fixed a JavaScript bug causing IE to be unable to properly select tests to edit, view previews of Rx or add/ remove Rx from a test. All working now.

SIPBS website
updated various sections of website, particularly legacy browser layout/ function issues

booking system
minor fixes to layout/ display and ordering, IE bugs in admin tools part

exam paper builder
creating an EDPAC extension to allow the system to export an EDPAC answer sheet. May or may not work due to browser to pdf conversion and the accuracy required to emulate the EDPAC format.
